The Kulob fire department says that a fire that broke out at Kulob’s central market in the night of August 14 was caused by arson.  

The fire reportedly broke out at one of wholesale stores of the market at 11:45 pm.  Seven fire crews participated in extinguishing the fire and it was put out in 40 minutes. 

According to the preliminary data, the damage caused by the fire to the store has been estimated at more than 30,000 somoni.

The Kulob fire department has refrained from giving further details.

Meanwhile, Tajik state-run news agency Khovar, citing the Kulob fire department chief, says the wholesale store head Hokimsho Nazarov is suspected of setting fire to the store.
