A joint exercise for Tajik and Uzbek border guards conducted in Khatlon province this week

A joint exercise for Tajik and Uzbek border guards, dubbed Jaihun-2018, has been conducted this week.

The scenario of the exercise that has been conducted at the turn of borders of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in the Tajik district of Shahritous (Khatlon province) was reportedly based on an armed gang breaking through the Afghan-Tajik border.  Tajik and Uzbek border guards have jointly repulsed the attack.

“The main purpose of the exercise was in rehearsing interaction in preventing invasion of armed gangs and large-scale drug trafficking,” Muhammadjon Ulughkhojayev, a spokesman for the Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

Meanwhile, Tajik Border Guard Directorate Rajabali Rahmonali has held talks with his Uzbek counterpart Ruslan Mirzayev in Dushanbe to discuss issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the border services of the two countries. 

“They have decided to work out a plan of joint actions on localization of he possible conflict situations along the mutual border and organization of various sports and cultural activities for border guards of the two countries,” Ulughkhojayev said, adding that the meeting resulted in signing of an agreement on cooperation between the border services of the two countries.
