Tajik border guards and counternarcotics agency officers report large heroin haul

DUSHANBE, October 5, Asia-Plus — Tajik border guards jointly with officers from the Khatlon counternarcotics directorate have warded off an attempt by Afghan drug trafficker to smuggle more than 20 kilograms of heroin into Khatlon’s Farkhor district.

According to Tajik Drug Control Agency, Afghan nation Sulton valadi Gulahmad was detained at the Afghan border in Farkhor yesterday evening.  20.634 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.   

The same day, officers from the counternarcotics agency and customs service also stopped an attempt of smuggling heroin into the Russian Federation.

An inspection of passengers on the flight Dushanbe-Kazan found 1.5 kilograms of heroin hidden in a luggage of one of passengers. 

Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
