The third meeting of the Tajikistan-Moldova intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation took place in Chisinau, Moldova on December 10.

Co-chaired by Mr. Abdulmajid Mubin, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management Committee (GosKomInvest) of Tajikistan and Ms. Juliana Dragelin, State Secretary, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure of Moldova, the meeting was reportedly focused on a broad range of issues related to economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. 

The sides, in particular, outlined sectors like tourism, construction, agriculture, hydropower and transportation as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries, an official source at GosKomInvest told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the two sides found it necessary to agree and sign the economic cooperation program designed for 2019-2021.

The meeting resulted in signing of a protocol.

The Tajikistan-Moldova intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation was established in 2004.

According to data of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Moldova in January-October this year has valued at only 1.2 million U.S. dollars.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Moldova estimated at more than 740,000 U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Moldova worth some 444,000 U.S. dollars.   

Tajikistan established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Moldova on January 26, 1993.  The legal base of bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Moldova includes 14 intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements in the fields of trade and economic cooperation and mutual protection of investments, information and etc.
