Truck traffic has been temporarily banned on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway as a series of avalanches have blocked the highway in several places in the Ayni district of the Sughd province.

The press center of the Branch of Innovative Road Solutions (IRS) in Tajikistan, which operates the toll on the Dushanbe-Chanak highway, says eleven avalanches occurred on January 11 blocking the Dushanbe-Khujand highway in several places from the 152nd to the 160th kilometer of the highway.

Although the highway has already been cleared of snow the risk of further avalanches in the area is high.  Truck traffic has been temporarily banned on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway, Daler Merganov, a spokesman for IRS said.
