Prosecutor-general’s office seriously concerned over increase in juvenile crime in the country

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, representatives of the Prosecutor-General’s Office revealed on January 29 that compared to 2017, juvenile crime last year rose 31 percent in Tajikistan. 

According to them, 907 crimes were committed by minors last year (a 31 percent increase compared to 2017). 

Prosecutors said the main reason for increase in juvenile crime in the country was the fact that more than 90 percent of juveniles committing crimes do not attends school and are beyond parental control. 

123 parents were reportedly punished last year for their children’s truancy

In all, 21,957 crimes were reported in Tajikistan last year, which is 0.3 percent fewer than during 2017.

Prosecutors also noted that the situation with buying and selling land remains tense in the country.
