A massive rockfall has blocked the Dushanbe-Khorog highway near the village of Sangev in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), according to the Emergencies Committee.  No injured was reported.

The Ministry of Transport and the Branch of the Innovative Road Solutions (IRS) in Tajikistan have reportedly provided special machines for cleaning the road of rocks.  The work on cleaning the road of rocks is under way.

Meanwhile, the Hydrometeorology Agency (Hydromet) reports that heavy snowfall is expected in the majority of mountain regions of the country until February 16 and there is risk of further snow-slides and rockfalls.

The Emergences Committee says traffic is moving slowly along the Dushanbe-Lakhsh, Khorog-Ishkashim and Khorog-Murgab roads due to heavy snowfall.

A series of avalanches yesterday blocked in several places the highway connecting Dushanbe and the northern province of Sughd province and the highway still remains closed for traffic.
