Tajikistan, Afghanistan to boost economic cooperation

Co-chaired by Tajik Minister of Transport Khudoyor Khudoyorzoda and Afghan acting Minister of Finance Mohammad Humayun Qayumi, who is also Chief Advisor to President Ashraf Ghani for Infrastructure and Technology, a two-day session of the Tajik-Afghan commission for trade and economic cooperation kicked off in the Tajik capital yesterday.  The meeting is taking place at “Tajikistan” Hotel.

Tajik state-run news agency Khovar reports that the commission members yesterday discussed bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the fields of standardization, energy, water resources, oil and gas, prevention of natural disasters, environmental protection, industry, transportation, culture, health care, education and social protection.

The session is continuing its work today and it is expected to end with signed of a protocol.  

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the first quarter of this year has valued at 35.5 million U.S. dollars.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Afghanistan estimated at 35.47 million U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Afghanistan worth only 32,000 U.S. dollars.
