DUSHANBE, August 17, Asia-Plus — On Thursday August 16, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) also Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev met with Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov in Moscow.

Their talks focused on the upcoming second Tajik-Russian parliamentary forum that will be held in the Russian federation from august 17 to August 20. 

Ubaidulloyev was in Moscow to discuss with Russian officials issues related to preparations for the second Tajik-Russian parliamentary forum formally entitled “Tajikistan-Russia: Potential of Interregional Cooperation”, which will be held in Moscow on September 17-18 and in Orienburg on September 19-20. 

Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Tajik speaker for public relations matters, told Asia-Plus that Ubaidulloyev and Luzhkov also discussed the holding of fair of Tajik handicraft industry and farm produce in Moscow.  

The two also discussed the labor migration issues.  “Luzhkov noted that the Moscow government jointly with Federal Migration Service had initiated consideration of a law on social security of labor migrants that will promote improvement of protection of migrant’s rights and creation of proper conditions for their staying and working in Moscow,” the aide said, noting that Moscow mayor had noted that Moscow is ready to accept 200,000 labor migrants from Tajikistan on contractual basis. 

As it had been reported earlier, the upcoming forum is dedicated to consider issues related to protection of Tajik labor migrants staying in the Russian Federation as well as a number of draft amendments to the Russian migration legislation and civil code.  The main objective of the mentioned amendments is to extend the application of a 90-day term for registration of migrants to Tajik nationals as well.  The second Tajik-Russian parliamentary forum is expected to result in signing of two government-to-government agreements on establishment of the Russian-Tajik labor exchange and cooperation in the field of social insurance, the aide said.
