Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) TALCO Gold, which is an affiliate of the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), intends to build a metallurgical plant in the northern Sughd province.
Sughd governor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda has met in Khujand with CJSC TALCO Gold CEO Lee Fen (the Chinese side assumes the 50% ownership interest in TALCO Gold) to discuss issues related to the pace of construction of a gold ore processing plant in the province.
Recall, the plant is being built in the Ayni district on the basis of the Konchoch group of deposits, which consists of three gold deposits – Chulboi (gold and silver; Konchoch (gold, silver, mercury, fluorite); and Shahkon (gold, antimony, fluorite and arsenium). TALCO was granted licenses to develop these deposits in December 2015. The company has the right to use these deposits for twenty five years.
The Sughd administration press center says TALCO Gold also plans to build a metallurgical plant in the province. This enterprise will produce metal structures. Negotiations on this issue will continue, the press center noted.
As far as the gold ore processing plant is concerned, 60 million U.S. dollars has been spent for construction of it so far. The enterprise is expected to be introduced into operation in mid-2020.
The Konchoch group of deposits reportedly has possible gold reserves of more than 55 tons and possible silver reserves of some 44 tons. It also has possible mercury reserves of 184 tons, possible antimony reserves of 268 tons and possible fluorite reserves of 205 tons.
