Over the first eight months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan has amounted to about 2.9 billion U.S. dollars, which was 100.2 percent of the January-August 2018 level or 5.7 million U.S. dollars more, according the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance over the report period was negative and amounted to 1.425.7 billion U.S. dollars.

In January-August, exports of goods have reportedly amounted to 700 million U.S. dollars.

Over the same eight-month period, imports of goods into the country have amounted to 2.2 billion U.S. dollars.

In January-August, Tajikistan has reportedly had trade relations with 102 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.

Over the first eight months of this year, the major trading partners of Tajikistan were Russia (the two-way trade between Tajikistan and Russia valued at nearly 655 million US dollars over the report period), Kazakhstan (560 million U.S. dollars), China (405 million U.S. dollars), Turkey (246 million U.S. dollars), and Uzbekistan (232 million U.S. dollars). 

Meanwhile, the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics (CIS-STAT) says Tajikistan has had the lowest volume of foreign trade turnover among the CIS member nations over the first six months of this year.

CIS trade statistical review prepared by CIS-STAT says the CIS trade turnover has amounted to nearly 500 billion U.S. dollars over the first six months of this year.

Tajikistan reportedly had the lowest volume of foreign trade turnover among the CIS nations over the report period – little more than 2.1 billion U.S. dollars.  

Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Moldova also had relatively low foreign trade turnovers over the same six month period – 3.2 billion USD, 3.5 billion USD and 4.1 billion USD respectively.  

In January-June this year, the Russian Federation had the highest foreign trade turnover – 318 billion USD.  It is followed by Ukraine — 52 billion USD, Kazakhstan — 45 billion USD, Belarus — 34 billion USD, and Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan – 17 billion USD each.  

Over the report period, only Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan had a positive trade balance — 93 billion USD, 11 billion USD and 3 billion USD respectively.
