Over the first six months of this year, food products have accounted for 23.1 percent of Tajikistan’s imports, says the Food Security and Poverty report, released by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan on October 7 this year.
The report, in particular, says that the country has imported mainly wheat and flour over the report period.
Sugar, confectionery, vegetable oil, eggs, canned foods, teas, and noodles (pasta) have also been among Tajikistan’s top imports over the report.
Compared to January-June last year, food imports to Tajikistan over the first six months of this year have increased by 11.2 percent, according to the report.
Import of chicken eggs has reportedly increased by 30.8 percent, wheat flour – 473 percent, vegetable oil – 39.4 percent, wheat – 6.9 percent, canned vegetables and tomatoes – 1.9 times, noodles – 29.8 percent, sugar and confectionery – 18.3 percent, fruits – 0.6 percent.
Meanwhile, import of potatoes, vegetable and fruit juices, as well as milk and dairy products has decreased over the same six-month period by 89, 28.6 and 2.5 percent respectively.
In January-June this year, food products have accounted for only 3.1 percent of the country’s exports. Tajikistan’s food exports have included mainly fruits and vegetables over the report period.
