In a statement release yesterday afternoon, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) condemned an attack conducted by militants of the Islamic State (IS) terror group on a border post in Tajikistan in the early morning of November 6.

The Organization has expressed full support for actions taken by the country’s power-wielding structures to prevent that terrorist attack.

“The incident confirms the need for consistent and decisive actions in the framework of the Organization on providing regional security and stability as well as on intensifying the joint fight against threats and challenges of terrorism and extremism,” says the statement.

Recall, the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan noted on November 7 that police officer Bahrom Qosimzoda and border guard Izatullo Latifiov were killed in the early hours of November 6 when 20 IS militants attacked the border post in the Roudaki district, some 60 kilometers southwest of Dushanbe.

The Interior Ministry of Tajikistan said on November 8 that the attack was carried out by IS fighters, "mostly citizens of Tajikistan" who crossed into the country from Afghanistan on November 3.

Meanwhile, sources in Dushanbe and sources in other parts of Tajikistan told RFE/RL on November 8 that at least five more border guards were killed in the attack.

The sources reportedly say Dilovar Tolibov, Hofiz Hasanov, Naimjon Saidolimov, Ghanijon Davlat, and an unidentified border guard were buried on November 7.

An online statement issued by the IS terror group on November 8 claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the IS militants had killed 10 Tajik border guards.
