DUSHANBE, June 8, Asia-Plus – recent heavy rainfalls have caused serious damage to economy of the Rasht Valley in eastern Tajikistan.

According to the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES), 200 hectares of sown areas and 88 hectares of personal plots have been affected in the Nuroobod district, some 100 kilometers east of Dushanbe.  

The source at a CES said that the worst hit areas were the district’s administrative center Darband and the Khumdon jamoat, where the bridge Sariqoshi was destroyed completely.

A special commission has been set up to assess an actual damage caused by the disaster to the district, the source, said.
