Tajik national currency depreciates against the euro

Date:

The value of the Tajik national currency, the somoni (TJS), has continued depreciating against the euro, registering an average official buying rate (the buying rate is the rate at which money dealers will buy foreign currency) of the euro against the somoni at 1:111.63 on July 3 up from 1:11.55 on July 2 (0.7 percent increase).

Since the beginning of the year, the somoni has lost 6.9 percent of its value against the euro (at the National Bank rate) — from 10.88:1 on January 1 to the current 11.63:1.

Local experts attribute depreciation of the somoni against the euro to a sharp reduction in the flow of this currency into the country.

Over the same period, the somoni has lost 5.9 percent of its value against the U.S. dollar (at the National Bank rate) – 9.69:1 on January 1 to the current 10.3:1.

Meanwhile, the value of the somoni against the Russian ruble (RR) has risen 7.6 percent since the beginning of the year.
