As of July 1, 2020, a total debt of enterprises and organizations in Tajikistan has amounted to more than 53.3 billion somoni (equivalent to 5.2 billion U.S. dollars), according to the Agency under the President of Tajikistan.

Debts of enterprises of republican importance, including Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national power utility company), Tajik Air (Tajik national air carrier), Dushanbe International Airport, Tajik Railways (Tajik national railway company), and Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), have reportedly totaled some 20 billion somoni

Unprofitable enterprises organizations account for 30.4 percent of a total number of enterprises and organizations registered in the country.  

The majority of unprofitable enterprises are reportedly in the processing industry – 20.6 percent.  

The relatively large debtor is Barqi Tojik.  As of July 1, 2020, the company’ total debt have amounted to 29.5 billion somoni (equivalent to 2.8 billion U.S. dollars).

Recall, the Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Zarobiddin Faizullozoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 30 that 181 industrial enterprises and workshops with total of about 2,000 employees have suspended their operations over the first six months of this year.  

According to him, the reasons leading to the suspension of enterprises were different, including external factors, lack of raw materials and floating assets, license expiration, seasonal operations, technological equipment degradation, non-competitiveness of manufactured products, property disputes, and reorientation.

According to statistical data from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT), 2,136 industrial enterprises now operate in Tajikistan.
