DUSHANBE, May 7, Asia-Plus – On Sunday May 6, President Emomali Rahmon left for Qatar for an official two-day visit.

According to presidential press service, the fist day of President Rahmon’s visit to Doha resulted in signing of four documents on bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar.  

In Doha, a meeting of President Rahmon met with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani was held with participation of the delegations of the two countries. 

Abdufattoh Sharifzoda, a spokesman for the Tajik president, reported from Doha that in the course of the talks the two had discussed opportunities and prospects of development of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Qatar and cooperation between Tajikistan and Arab countries. 

President Rahmon, in particular, noted, “We can provide unity of Muslim world and its development through a proved policy, in particular by use of financial potentials of each other…  Material and financial assistance to backward Muslim countries will serve for the common weal.”

According to Sharifzoda, the sides also discussed the possibility of attracting financial means of Qatar and other advanced Arab and Muslim countries in the implementation of investment projects aimed at enhancement of energy, water supply, transport and telecommunications as well as tourism and other sectors in Tajikistan.  Education and culture were also outlined as priorities of cooperation.   

On the situation in the Middle East, the sides spoke for peaceful settlement of all disputes though negotiations and by diplomatic way, the spokesman said.  

After the meeting, the sides signed two government-to-government agreements on economic, trade and technical cooperation, as well as mutual protection of investments, and two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between MFAs and Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) of the two countries.  

Today, President Rahmon will leave Qatar for Iran.
