Over the first nine months of this year, inflation in consumer sector stood at 5.1 percent

In Tajikistan, inflation in the consumer goods sector over the first nine months of this year has stood at 5.1 percent, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The cost of products of the food industry in January-September has reportedly increased on average by 6.3 percent. 

The increase in cost of products of the food industry was reportedly caused by a 19.6-percent increase  in prices for sugar, 11.3 percent rise in prices for bakery products, fruits – 7.0 percent, vegetable oil – 7.0 percent, potatoes – 5.7 percent, and meat – 5.0 percent.  

Non-foodstuffs have reportedly risen in cost on average 3.8 0.9 percent over the same nine-month period with the prices increasing most significantly for the following goods: liquefied natural gas (LNG) – 10.7 percent; pharmaceutical products – 8.0 percent; detergents – 6.8 percent; building materials – 6.7 percent; fabrics – 5.5 percent; and spare parts for transport – 3.9.   

Prices and rates for services rendered to the population reportedly have increased on average by 3.7 percent over the first nine months of this year.  Prices for air ticket and rates for domestic services have reportedly increased most significantly over the reporting period: 30 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.  

This year, the government plans to curb inflation rate at 7.0 percent.  

Meanwhile, the World Bank predicts this year’s year-end inflation in Tajikistan at 10 percent.

Last year, the year-end inflation in the consumer goods sector reportedly stood at 8.0 percent.
