DUSHANBE, April 6, 2009, Asia-Plus — Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev today received a delegation of the European Parliament that arrived in Dushanbe to attend the 4th meeting of members of the Majlisi Milli and European MPs that will be held here on April 7, Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
During the meeting, Ubaidulloyev noted that Tajikistan attached significance to cooperation with European countries and Tajik Parliament was ready to cooperate with the European Parliament on all directions being of mutual interest.
For her part, Ms. Ona Yuknevicene (phonetically spelled), chairperson of the European Parliament group for relations with Central Asia also member of the commission for employment and social issues, noted that Tajik president’s visit to Brussels and his meeting with representatives of the European Parliament in early February 2009 paved the way for further expansion of cooperation between the European Union and Tajikistan, the aide said.
The delegation of the European Parliament, numbering eight persons, arrived in Dushanbe today morning. During their stay in Tajikistan, they are also scheduled to hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Saydullo Khairulloyev, Director of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption Sherkhon Salimzoda and Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi.
