IRPT candidate for parliament intends to file suit against Kulob electoral commission

DUSHANBE, March 28, Asia-Plus – Saidibrohim Nazar, registered as candidate in an upcoming parliamentary by-election scheduled for April 1, today told journalists in Kulob that he intends to file suit against the electoral commission of Kulob constituency # 37.

Saidibrohim Nazar is the head of the primary organization of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) for the city of Kulob and the IRPT nominated him is it candidate for parliament in the upcoming by-election.

He reminded that the electoral commission had previously not wanted to accept lists of representatives from the IRPT to electoral commissions at polling stations and “only under pressure of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) they had accepted them.”

“The lists of members of electoral commissions at poling stations should have been published before March 20; however, they have not yet published them,” said Saidibrohim Nazar, “According to information from our sources, our representatives were not included into the lists.”

The IRPT candidate also noted that the electoral commission had notified him of not all official meetings with voters.  “When on March 26 we came to meeting of another candidate for parliament, Khumdin Sharipov, with local industrialists, they tried to close doors before us,” Saidibrohim Nazar said.

“If they do not introduce order in the commission’s work, I will give up the participation in the election,” the IRPT candidate stated.

We will recall that Saidibrohim Nazar is running for a seat representing the Kulob constituency in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) that had been held by Abdujabbor Shamsov.  The position had been declared vacant because Shamsov had been appointed deputy interior minister.

Saidibrohim Nazar will face the former interior Khumdin Sharipov, nominated by ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT), in an April 1 vote.
