DUSHANBE, March 6, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmonov has congratulated Tajik women on the upcoming International Women’s Day, which is marked on March 8. 

A festive meeting on occasion of International Women’s Day was held in Dushanbe on March 6. 

According to presidential press service, senior representatives from presidents’ office, parliament, Dushanbe mayor’s office as well as representatives from the public attended the meeting.           

After the meeting a concert with participation of known Tajik artistes was held.  

International Women”s Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women”s groups around the world.  This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday.  International Women”s Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men.  The idea of an International Women”s Day first arose at the turn of the 20th century, which in the industrialized world was a period of expansion and turbulence, booming population growth and radical ideologies.
