President Emomali Rahmon today began a four day working visit to the northern Sughd province.  The main purpose of the visit is for the president to get acquainted with socioeconomic situation in the province and inaugurate a number of new economic and social facilities in Sughd, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The city of Buston (formerly Chkalovsk) was the first leg of Rahmon’s visit to Sughd.  Emomali Rahmon reportedly inaugurated the first line of the polyethylene product manufacturing enterprise, Fayzi Buston Ltd, in the city.

The enterprise with capacity of producing 175,000 polyethylene sacks and 11,000 meters of plastic sheeting per day has reportedly created 50 new jobs.

The enterprise was constructed by local entrepreneur Muqadda Qodirova in the industrial zone of Buston in an area of one hectare.  The equipment for the enterprise has been delivered from China.  A total cost of the project is more than 3 million somonis.

The Buston-based industrial enterprises last year reportedly produced a total of 715 million somonis worth of goods.

It was also noted that a solid waste management enterprise is planned to be built in Buston through the public-private partnership.

While in Sughd, Emomali Rahmon is also scheduled to visit the Bobojon-Ghafourov district and the cities of Khujand, Guliston, Istaravshan and Isfara (Vorukh jamoat), a source within the government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

More than 6,500 new economic and social facilities, including 300 industrial enterprises, are expected to be commissioned in northern Tajikistan by the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, which will be celebrated on September 9 this year.
