Members of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have unanimously voted for endorsement of a bill on motor roads and road activities, which was drafted by the government.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, was held on April 21.  

Presenting the bill to lawmakers, the Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim noted that the new law defines the legal and economic legal and economic foundations of road activities, development and use of road network.  

According to him, the law was drafted in order to get the country out of the transport deadlock and transform Tajikistan into a transit country through the implementation of projects for the construction and rehabilitation of roads.

The law will ensure compliance with the requirements of the safety standard in the design, construction and rehabilitation of roads as well as the construction of gas stations and other service facilities along the roads.  

Since the acquisition of independence, more than US$1.8 billion worth of road development projects have been implemented in Tajikistan, the minister noted.  

Currently, 14 road development projects in a total amount of 694 million U.S. dollars are being implemented in the country.
