Facilities destroyed in Kyrgyz territory during the latest border clashes will be restored at the expense of the government

Kyrgyz authorities have announced that all residential building as well as social and economic facilities destroyed in Kyrgyz territory during the April 28-29 clashes will be restored at the expense of the government.

“Residential buildings of residents of Batken region that were destroyed or partially damaged during the latest clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border will be fully restored at the expense of the government,” Kyrgyz president’s official website reported on May 2.  

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Emergencies of Kyrgyzstan, Urmatbek Shamirkanov, says 78 residential buildings were completely destroyed or partially damaged in Batken region during the latest border clashes. 

Besides, ten gas stations, eight shops, three frontier posts, two schools, a kindergarten, a first-aid post and a building of local police department were reportedly destroyed.

According to data from Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Health, 34 Kyrgyz nationals were killed and 182 others were wounded during the conflict.  

Tajik authorities have not yet disclosed the number of killed and wounded in the conflict.  

Residents of the Tajik village of Khoja Alo, however, says 16 Tajik nationals were killed and more than 100 others were wounded during the latest border clashes.  More than 10 residential buildings were completely destroyed in the village.

Meanwhile, Sughd Governor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda noted today at a working meeting that upon instruction from President Emomali Rahmon all residential buildings destroyed during the April 28-29 border clashes will fully restored within a month and families of those killed in the clashes will receive financial and material assistance.
