Wage arrears decline to 62.5 million somonis in Tajikistan

Given the previous years, wage arrears in Tajikistan have amounted to about 62.6 million somonis (equivalent to 5.5 million U.S. dollars) as of May 1, 2021, according the Agency for Statistics under President of Tajikistan.

Compared to the beginning of the year, wage arrears have declined by 18 million somonis (equivalent to 1.6 million U.S. dollars).

Wage arrears rose by 47.7 million somonis in a year to December 31, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, reaching nearly 80.6 million somonis (equivalent to 7.1 million U.S. dollars).

It is to be noted that coronavirus pandemic has negatively affected many sectors of the country’s economy, and as a result, employers have failed to pay wages to their employees on time and in full volume.

The wage arrears have reportedly declined over the first four months due to repayment of wage arrears in the processing industry, information and communications.

However, the highest wage debt has been reported in the processing sector – more than 20.8 million somonis (equivalent to 1.8 million U.S. dollars).

Relatively high wage debts have also been reported in the mining sector – 15.7 million somonis, in the construction sector – 7.1 million somonis, and in the transportation sector – 10.4 million somonis.  

As of May 1, 2021, an average monthly wage in Tajikistan amounted to 1,535 somonis (equivalent to 136 U.S. dollars).

Tajikistan’s minimum wage in Tajikistan amounts to 400.00 somonis (equivalent to 35 million U.S. dollars).

In Tajikistan, the highest average monthly wage has been reported in the financial sector – 4,063 somonis (equivalent to 359 U.S. dollars)   

The lowest average monthly wage has been reported in the agrarian sector – 630 somonis (equivalent to 55 U.S. dollars).
