DUSHANBE, April 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Electricity rationing has been abandoned in the provinces. Asia-Plus has learned at the control service within Barqi Tojik power holding.

The source said that the province currently had regular power supplies and just several remote settlements still had electricity 18-20 hours per day.

Tajikistan now produces some 20 million kWh of electricity per day and the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) accounts for 70 percent of the overall volume of electricity generated in the country.  Besides, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan currently deliver from 14 million to 16 million kWh of electrical power to Tajikistan per day.  In the meantime, Tajikistan’s daily requirements in electricity are 40 million kWh.

The source at Barqi Tojik added that Tajik Aluminum Company (Talco) and Dushanbe now received 16 million and 10 million kWh of electricity per day respectively.
