Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met here with   Glencore CEO Ivan Glasenberg, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The parties reportedly discussed the possibility of construction of metallurgical enterprise in Tajikistan with participation of Glencore, which is one of the world’s largest globally diversified natural resource companies. 

The parties also discussed the opportunities of cooperation in implementation of projects aiming developing and exploring gold, silver, zinc, and antimony deposits in Tajikistan.  

Besides, they discussed issues related to technological modernization of the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), complete processing of primary aluminum and setting up the production of final products in Tajikistan itself and increasing TALCO’s production capacity to 1 million tons.

It was noted during the meeting that more than 25 Swiss or joint enterprises with participation of Swiss investment now operate in Tajikistan and “effective partnership between Glencore and TALCO is a prime example of cooperation in the field of aluminum production.” 

Over the past five years, the total volume of trade between the two companies has reportedly valued at more than 1 billion U.S. dollars.
