Tajikistan’s external trade turnover has amounted to 1.677 billion U.S. dollars over the first three months of this year, which is which is 93.5 percent of the level of January-March of 2021 level, or 117 million U.S. dollars fewer, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan

In January-March this year, the trade balance was negative and amounted to 737 million U.S. dollars.

Exports of goods in January-March have reportedly amounted to 470 million U.S. dollars, which is 50.5 percent, or 480 million U.S. dollars, fewer than in the same period last year. 

Over the reporting period, period, the country’s exports mainly included mineral resources (various raw materials) – more than 38 percent, textiles – about 22 percent, precious metals and stones – 16 percent (59-percent decrease compared to the same period last year).  

Imports of goods into the country over the first quarter of this year, on the contrary, have increased by 43 percent or 363 million U.S. dollars compared to the same period last year.

Over the first three months of this year, imports of goods into Tajikistan have amounted to 1.2 billion U.S. dollars.

The main items of Tajikistan’s imports over the reporting period were: mineral products – 20 percent; machinery and equipment – 12.2 percent; base metals and manufactures thereof – 11.1 percent; and products of chemical industry – 10.4 percent.

Over the reporting period, Tajikistan had trade relations with 94 countries. 

Over the same three-month period, major trading partners of Tajikistan were: Russia – almost 365 million U.S. dollars (22 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover in January-March, 2022); Kazakhstan – 354 million U.S. dollars; and China – 344 million U.S. dollars.

Russia, Kazakhstan and China have accounted for more than 63 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover in the quarter of this year.
