An official exchange rate of the Russian ruble (RR) against the Tajik national currency, the somoni (TJS), continues rising in Tajikistan.

The official exchange rate of RR against TJS set by the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) on May 31 is1: 0.177 (almost 5.7-percet increase compared to May 30, when the exchange rate of RR against TJS was 1:0.1675).

It is already the fourth such a record high reached by RR since late February this year.  On April 11, the NBT set the exchange rate of RR against TJS at 1:0.171.5, 1: 0.172 on May 23, and 1: 0.173 on May 27.

Meanwhile, the current grey market buying exchange rate of RR against TJS is 1:0.17 and its current grey market selling exchange rate against TJS was 1:0.174.

The buying rate is the rate at which money dealers will buy foreign currency, and the selling rate is the rate at which they will sell that currency.

As far as the official exchange rate of the dollar against the somoni is concerned, it has remained unchanged for already several days.

The dollar has lost 4 percent of its value against the somoni over the past week: the USD exchange rate against TJS decreased from 1:11.8 on May 24 to 1:11.4 on May 27, and it has not changed since that time.

The current grey market buying exchange rate of USD against TJS is 1:11.5 and its current grey market selling exchange rate against TJS was 1:1.18.

It is to be noted that the trend towards an increase in the exchange rate of the somoni against the dollar has continued since mid-April.
