Inflation slowdown expected in Kyrgyzstan, Economy Minister says

“Inflation slowdown is expected in Kyrgyzstan in the end of 2008,” Akylbek Japarov, the Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy Development and Trade said last Friday.

According to the Ministry, in August 2008 inflation rates decreased to 0.3 percent, hitting 14.8 percent. It was caused by seasonal food price fall.

Services in Kyrgyzstan will see a price rise in August by 2.6 percent, whereof housing by 6 percent, restaurants and hotel services – by 6.1 percent, communication services – 1.6 percent, transport services – 1 percent, health care services – 0.9 percent, education services – 0.6 percent.

Inflation is unlikely to overgrow 20-22 percent in 2008. The positive influence is coming out of the Economy Ministry and National Bank policies, as well as world oil and grain price fall, while negative effect is caused by housing tariffs and energy vector price rise.
