DUSHANBE, November 8, Asia-Plus – A total regulative capital of Tajik banks has increased by 8 percent since the beginning of the year, according to the department for bank supervision and licensing of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

As of October 1, a total regulative capital of commercial banks in Tajikistan has made 268.4 million somonis (equivalent to US$79.1 million), which is 19.2 million somonis more compared to last year.  Experts expected the total regulative capital of banks to be higher but since a number of banks in the country had reduced from 12 to 9 it had made 268.4 million somonis.  

“This year, the country’s central bank has revoked licenses of STB-InvestBank, Olymp Bank and East-Credit Bank,” said the central bank source.   

According to the source, three other banks, including Ayom Bank, Somon Bank and Central Asian Bank, are also at the stage of liquidation.   

OryonBonk tops Tajik banks in terms of an amount of the regulative capital.  As of October 1 2006, the regulative capital of OryonBonk has made 55.6 million somonis (more than US$16 million). 

The regulative capital of AgroInvestBonk has made 47.1 million somonis (more than US$13 million) as of October 1, TojikSodirotBonk — 31.4 million somonis (more than US49 million), TajPromBank — 28.7 million somonis (nearly US$9 million), AmonatBonk (Tajik savings bank) – 21.1 million somonis (more than US46 million), Eskhata Bank – 19.7 million somonis (US45.8 million), First Microfinance Bank – 19.4 million somonis (US$5.7 million) and SohibkorBonk – 16.9 million somonis (nearly US$5 million).  The regulative capital of the branch of Iran’s Tejerat Bank in Dushanbe has made 18.7 million somonis (US$5.5 million) as of October 1.
