In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national power utility company) top manager Mahmadumar Asozoda revealed on August 1 that consumption of electricity in the country increased to a record high in late July due to abnormally hot weather.

He emphasized that on July 26, the daily electricity generation amounted to 72.1 million kWh.

“Such a high daily electricity generation has never been registered in the republic before,” said he.  “Before that, the maximum daily electricity consumption has been little more than 70 million kWh over the past three years.”

Asozoda further noted that there are no any serious problems with filling the main reservoir of the country – the reservoir powering the Nurek hydropower plant.

“Only 1.56 meters remain up to the nominal occupancy level of the Nurek reservoir,” Barqi Tojik top manager said.

He further added that the current inflow of the Vakhsh River exceeds the established norm.

Recall, the maximum filling level of the Nurek reservoir is 910.69 meters, while it has a normal retaining level of 910 meters.

According to data from Barqi Tojik, Tajikistan has generated about 7.7 billion kWh of electricity, which is 1.0 percent than in the same period last year.
