German FM arrives in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, November 3, Asia-Plus – German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Dushanbe today morning for a one-day visit.  

The German foreign minister met with his Tajik counterpart, Talbak Nazarov, and with President Emomali Rahmonov.  Their talks focused on prospects of further expansion of bilateral Tajik-German relations and cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.

After the meeting with President Rahmonov, Steinmeier told journalists that they discussed bilateral economic cooperation between Germany and Tajikistan.  The German minister expressed hope for further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.      

On the upcoming presidential election in Tajikistan, Steinmeier noted that President Rahmonov assured that Tajikistan will follow the way towards democratization. 

Today afternoon, the German minister will meet with representatives from Tajik political parties at the residence of the German Ambassador.  Besides, German FM is also scheduled to visit the Norak hydroelectric power station.    

Today evening, Steinmeier will leave Dushanbe for Bishkek.  The German official visits Tajikistan as part of his tour of Central Asian countries.
