Inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods sector for January-July this year estimated at 4.6%

Over the first seven months of this year, inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods sector has stood at 4.6 percent, which is 0.3 percent higher than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Meanwhile, the cost of products of the food industry over the reporting period has reportedly increased in Tajikistan on average by 7.6 percent, and an average monthly increase in food prices over the first five months of this year was 1.085 percent.

The increase in cost of products of the food industry was reportedly caused by a 21.3 percent increase in prices for vegetables, 19.61-percent increase in prices for sugar; 13.9 percent increase in prices for bakery products and cereals; eggs – 7.7 percent; and milk – 7.0 percent.   

In January-July this year, non-foodstuffs rose in cost on average 2.6 percent with the prices increasing most significantly for the following goods: diesel fuel – 17.9 percent; detergent – 11.3 percent; pharmaceutical products – 7.9 percent; and building materials – 3.5 percent.

Meanwhile, prices and rates for services rendered to the population have reportedly decreased on average by 0.9 percent over the same seven-month period.    

The government predicts this year’s year-end inflation in Tajikistan at 6.0 percent.

Recall, the year-end inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods sector last year stood at 8.0 percent.

The government last year planned to curb inflation rate at 7.0 percent.
