In January this year, inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods stood at 0.5 percent, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Over the reporting period, the cost of products of the food industry in January reportedly increased in the country on average by 0.5 percent.

The increase in cost of products of the food industry was reportedly caused by a 9.5-percent decrease in prices for vegetables; 7.7-percent increase in prices for buckwheat; 5.6 percent increase in prices for rice; and 3.6 percent increase in prices for milk. 

In January, prices for non-foodstuffs last month reportedly increased in the country on average by 0.9 percent with the prices increasing most significantly for the following goods: home appliances – 2.5 percent; detergents – 2.4 percent; pharmaceutical products – 0.9 percent; clothes and shoes – 0.5 percent; and building materials – 0.5 percent.  

Prices and rates for services rendered to the population last month increased by 0.1 percent.  The ones that increased most significantly were: shoe repair and tailoring – 7.2 percent; real estate tax – 3.3 percent; household services – 0.6 percent; and education services – 0.4 percent (preschool institution services last month increased by 2.4 percent).

Meanwhile, liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices last month reportedly decreased on average by 24.3 percent.      

In 2022, year-end inflation in Tajikistan stood at 4.2 percent; the lowest inflation rate since the country’s independence.

Last year, prices for products of the food industry, prices for non-foodstuffs and prices and rates for services rendered to the population increased by 5.2 percent, 4.0 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively.
