A 13,97 million Euro grant is enabling the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the National Social Investment Fund of Tajikistan to support the promotion of basic education and access to WASH facilities in rural areas

On August 25, 2023 KFW Development Bank’s Regional Office Director for Central Asia, Dr. Andreas Schneider, Tajikistan’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda and Sherali Siddiqzoda, the Director of National Social Investment Fund of Tajikistan attended a signing ceremony of the Financing, Separate and Channeling Agreements between the three parties through online and in-person participation.

The funding for this project has been allocation through European Union’s 2nd phase of the Quality Education Support Program and is aimed at construction and rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools and vocational education and training colleges in Tajikistan. The objective of the project is to sustainably improve access to appropriate and adequate schooling environment and to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.

Both Mr. Zavqizoda and Dr. Andreas Schneider mentioned the relevance of the program to Tajikistan’s strategic goals of improving access to basic education, particularly in rural areas. NSIFT with the participation of international implementation consultant and in cooperation with Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan will be implementing this project with the aim of reaching the set goals and objectives.

KfW Development Bank has been implementing projects in the education sector through the German Financial Cooperation under assignment of German Ministry of Economic cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 2004.  Previous education sector programs implemented jointly with MoEDT include four phases of “Community Funds for the Promotion of Basic Education and Rehabilitation of Community Infrastructure” program, comprising a total amount of 23 million Euros and 93 newly constructed and rehabilitated schools that provided safe and accessible schooling environment for over 17000 children.
