Tajikistan has significantly reduced the supply of its products to Afghanistan

Date:

Bilateral Tajik-Afghan trade turnover for seven months of this year amounted to about $56.5 million, which is 17.9% less than in the same period of 2022, the Statistical Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

In January-July last year, the total volume of trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $68.6 million.

More than 98% of the Tajik-Afghan turnover, as last year, accounts for the supply of Tajik products to Afghanistan.

At the same time, Tajikistan has reduced the supply of goods and products to Afghanistan this year compared to the previous year by 16.5% – from $66.7 million to $55.7 million.

Despite this, Afghanistan remains among the main markets for Tajik products, second only to Kazakhstan, China, Turkey, Russia and Uzbekistan in this indicator.

The share of Afghanistan in Tajikistan's total exports increased to 7.3% in the first seven months of this year from 4.9% in the same period of 2022.

This is due to a drop in Tajikistan's total exports in January-July of this year compared to the corresponding period of the previous year: from almost $1.4 billion to $767 million.

Electricity remains the main product supplied by Tajikistan to Afghanistan. Also, some construction materials, primarily cement, and food products are supplied to the neighboring country in relatively smaller volumes.
