Tajikistan’s national budget for 2024 will be 43 billion somonis, Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda remarked at a regular sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) of the sixth convocation news conference on November 15, according to the Majlisi Namoyandagon’s official website.

He reportedly said state budget indicators reflect the economic and social development of the country.  Social spending will account for 43% of budget allocations, with 18.7% earmarked for public education alone.

Qahhorzoda said revenues are projected to be 43 billion somonis (5.9 billion somonis or 15.9 percent more than in 2023) and expenditures at 44.1 billion somonis (6 billion somonis more than last year).

GDP growth is projected to rise 8.0 percent next year to 143.9 billion somonis, the minister said.  

The budget projects expenditure of 8,231,900,000 somonis in the education sector, which is 14.2 percent of the budget.   

The budget reportedly earmarks 3,488,900,000 somonis (8.0 percent of the budget) in the health sector, which is 145.9 million somonis, or 4.4 percent, more than in the 2023 budget.     

In 2024, the 12.5 percent of the budget, or 5,533,600,000 somonis, is expected to be spent on the social insurance and social protection system, which is 635 million somonis, or 13 percent, more than last year.  

The budget earmarks 3.9 percent, or 1,716,700,000 somonis, for culture and sports, which is 14.9 percent, or 223.1 million somonis, more in 2023.   

In 2024, 15,322,400,000 somonis, which is 10.6 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), is expected to be spent the economic sectors.
