As part of his official visit to the Russian Federation, President Emomali Rahmon held talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin yesterday.

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between their countries in a narrow format.

They, in particular, discussed the current aspects of the strategic partnership between the parties, including issues of cooperation in the economic and commercial, cultural and humanitarian sectors, as well as in the field of security.

Rahmon and Putin reportedly also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, the Russian president’s official website says senior Russian officials attending the talks in restricted format included Deputy Prime Minister, Chair of the Russian Section of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan Marat Khusnullin, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.

The one-to-one discussion between the leaders was followed by a meeting in an extended format with participation of delegations of the two countries.

The Tajik president’s official website says that during the negotiations, Emomali Rahmon mentioned that the Tajik party considers this visit as an important step towards further expansion of strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries and pointed out that the cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia today has a steady flow in all areas of mutual interest.

It was emphasized that this year is considered a festive year for both countries. 30 years ago, the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance was signed.  The achieved level of cooperation was highly appreciated.

The parties reportedly discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia in energy and industrial sectors with attention given to the metallurgical, mining, textile, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Rahmon, in particular, noted that considering the large water and energy resources, Tajikistan is currently actively developing "green" energy.

It was emphasized that Tajikistan is determined to double the production capacity of clean energy as a key basis for promoting the “green economy.”

The parties agreed that agriculture is another promising area of cooperation.  Readiness was expressed for the expansion of the export of ecologically clean agricultural products of Tajikistan to Russia.

The discussion was also held on the broad possibilities of cooperation in the field of tourism.

Satisfaction was expressed with the high results of humanitarian cooperation, which are on the rise.

During the negotiations, special attention was reportedly paid to the study of the Russian language, which in Tajikistan, according to the Constitution, has been given the status of a language of inter-ethnic communication.

Support was expressed for the expansion of the experience of sending Russian teachers to Tajikistan within the framework of the project "Russian Teacher Abroad", under which 72 teachers are currently working in Tajikistan.

The heads of state attached great importance to expansion of cooperation between the regions of the two countries.

Today, more than 80 federal and economic entities of Russia cooperate with Tajikistan.

The importance of cooperation between the two countries in the field of security was mentioned.
