Kazakhstn’s Orda.kz reports that Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, Valikhan Turekhanov, on March 12 handed over to the Tajik side a certificate for receiving 15,000 tons of fuel oil.   The fuel oil has reportedly been sent to Tajikistan in humanitarian aid.

According to information of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the humanitarian aid worth 2.542 billion tenge was sent to Tajikistan on behalf of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The fuel oil is reportedly intended to ensure stable operation of important energy facilities in Tajikistan.

The humanitarian aid has been handed over with support from Kazakhstan’s Agency for International Development, or KazAID.

Kazakhstan’s MFA emphasized that fuel supply is Kazakhstan’s contribution to ensuring energy security [of Tajikistan] and manifestation of strategic partnership with Tajikistan.

Since 2006, Kazakhstan has reportedly provided more than 50 million US dollars’ worth of humanitarian aid to Tajikistan.

At the end of 2023 it became known that Tajikistan was included in the list of countries, to which Kazakhstan will provide humanitarian aid using the emergency reserve.  Tajikistan will receive 77 million tenge worth of humanitarian aid.  The list also includes Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.

According to data from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the country last year imported about 23,000 tons of fuel oil, which is mostly used by the Dushanbe combined heat and power plant for generation of heat and electricity in autumn-winter period.

By Kazakh government’s decree the KazAID was established in 2020.  A year later, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined the state policy on Official Development Assistance (ODA) for 2021-2025.  The activities of Kazakhstan in the field of ODA are reportedly an integral part of the new vector of the state’s foreign policy.

KazAID is a subordinate organization of Kazakhstan’s MFA.  It implements the state policy in the field of ODA, promotes development and sustainable growth in recipient countries and promotes exchange of experience and establishment of contacts between specialists of different countries.
