Turkmenistan and Austria held high level talks in Vienna on Monday as part of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov”s official visit to Austria.
During the meeting the heads of the two states confirmed their readiness to speed up cooperation both in the bilateral format and within the framework of Turkmenistan- European Union cooperation.
“The Austrian Republic supports Turkmenistan”s position with regard to the diversification of energy supplies to the world market, and is ready to help fulfil these plans in a most efficient manner,” said Austrian President Heinz Fischer. He noted that “Austria and other European countries are interested in this.”
During the talks the sides agreed to sign an agreement on cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
At the end of talks, the sides signed bilateral documents. These are the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Labor of the Austrian Republic on speeding up bilateral economic relations and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of the European and International Affairs of Austrian Republic on creation of a mechanism of political consultations.
“The Turkmen president”s visit has surely met all expectations. This is mainly due to the fact that both countries, enjoying the neutral status, pursue the policy aimed at constructive solution of all urgent problems and cooperation in common interest,” Heinz Fischer said in the end of talks.
