Fixed capital investment in Kazakhstan totaled KZT 343.055 billion in January-February 2009, down 9.7% from the same period of last year, the State Statistics Agency informed.

23.7% was accounted for the oil and gas industry, which was still the main investment target by sector.

Investment in fishing increased the most – 83% – during the period, followed by transportation and communications – 64.4% and utilities – 61.1%.

Investment increased in eleven of 16 regions in two months, most of all the Zhambyl region, but fell in five regions. The biggest decline – 74.2% – in Astana.
