On Saturday May 25, President Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with regional administrators of Khatlon province in his hometown Danghara.

The Tajik president’s official website says governors of other provinces and heads of districts subordinate to the center also participated in in the meeting.

Issues related to ensuring regular work of the agrarian sector, increasing the culture of water and land use, resources and opportunities to boost the production agricultural goods were reportedly discussed at the meeting.

In connection with the rapidly changing situation of today's world, climate change and its consequences, including consecutive droughts, the head of state instructed to use all available capacities and resources effectively to make the economy of Tajikistan resilient to the adverse effects of external factors and to ensure the food security of the country, according to the Tajik president’s official website.  .

Analyzing the current situation in the country’s agrarian sector, Emomali Rahmon reportedly stated that over the first four months of this, gross agricultural product from all categories of farms has been 5.158 billion somonis (in current prices), which is 7.1 percent more compared to the same period last year.

However, there are still many opportunities for the development of the agrarian sector, Emomali Rahmon noted.

According to data for the January-April this year, all categories of farms in Khatlon province have produced a total of 2.350 billion somonis worth of agricultural goods, which is nearly 8.0 percent more than in the same period last year.

However, taking into account the strategic goals and capabilities of the province, this indicator cannot satisfy, the head of state said.

Local authorities of the province were instructed to take adequate measures to implement the prognosis of planting crops, effective use of land and increasing the area of cultivation, replanting and enhancing the productivity of crops.

Khatlon province has a great potential in the export of fruits and vegetables, especially early fruits and vegetables, but these opportunities have not yet been used adequately.

Therefore, regional administrators were reportedly instructed to take urgent measures to regularly supply the domestic market with quality agricultural goods and increase the country's export capacity.

Rahmon emphasized that 44 state-run investment projects having been implemented in Khatlon province to achieve national goals and priorities and to solve sectoral issues.

The investment projects are reportedly aimed at promoting the development of the fields of education, health, agriculture, housing and utilities, energy, transport, tourism and emergency prevention.

Over the first four months of this year, Khatlon province has reportedly produced a total of 3.2 billion somonis worth of industrial goods, which is 6.2 percent more than in the same period last year.

Speaking at the meeting, Rahmon noted that the unused opportunities of the province in the area of industrial development, especially the processing industry, are extremely large.

Also, it was instructed to speed up the process of digitization of the national economy as the most important issue in the activities of government bodies.
