DUSHANBE, March 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Russian embassy in Dushanbe has announced the delivery of humanitarian aid to Tajikistan for vulnerable sections of the population.

Two transport planes IL-76 of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations are expected to airlift humanitarian aid to the Dushanbe airport Thursday afternoon.

Senior representatives from the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe and Tajikistan’s Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) will attend the assistance-handover ceremony, the source said.

In the meantime,26 countries of the world have provided humanitarian aid to Tajikistan in January-February this year, according to the State Committee for Statistics.

6,615 tons of goods worth 16.55 million US dollars have been delivered to Tajikistan over the report period.  The assistance included 2,701 tons of wheat flour, 663 tons of vegetable oil and other foodstuffs as well as clothing, bedding, medicines and medical equipment, computers, etc.

Among the donor countries the greatest share in value came from the United States – 51.8 percent, Latvia – 12.3 percent, Germany – 9.7 percent, India – 4.1 percent, Denmark – 3.5 percent, Austria – 2.9 percent, Switzerland – 1.2 percent, Estonia – 1.1 percent,  the Netherlands – 0.8 percent, China and Sweden – 0.4 percent each, and of the CIS countries: Russia – 5.5 percent, Kazakhstan – 3.0 percent, Kyrgyzstan – 1.3 percent,  and others.
