DUSHANBE, June 14, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan is currently negotiating with Russian company “RusAgro” the possibility of purchase of delta-gliders (machines built of aluminum, carbon-fiber and high tech sail fabrics for hang gliding) for pollinating cotton fields against pests.

Rahim Nazarov, the head of the plant-growing department of the Ministry of Agriculture, has told Asia-Plus that the Agriculture Ministry unfortunately does not have funds for purchasing the delta gliders and therefore they have forwarded the proposal to investors working in the cotton sector of the republic.

Over the past several years, various pests have widely spread in some regions of the country, causing serious damage to the cotton fields, particularly in the southern regions.

“It is necessary to find ways of seeking solution to this problem not only because cotton is of great importance for Tajikistan’s economy but also because it is a source of incomes for 75 percent of the rural population in the country,” Mr. Nazarov said.
