On Monday October 14, President Emomali Rahmon met in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), with GBAO regional administrators and public activists.  

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon analyzed the results of the social and economic development of the region, the implementation of the instructions and orders of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the construction process for the worthy celebration of the national holiday – 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence.   

The head of state reportedly expressed satisfaction with the fact that GBAO is becoming more prosperous and developed year by year and the quality of life of its residents is steadily improving with the constant support and care of the country’s Government.

It was emphasized that in the years of independence, more than 24 billion somonis were directed to the region from all sources of financing for the implementation of constructive goals and plans. Also, during this period, 3765 hectares of land was allocated for the construction of residential houses and improvement of living conditions for more than 37,000 families of the region, which is over 3 times more than the volume of lands given before 1991.  As a result of the measures taken by the Government, the region’s gross domestic product this year has been estimated at 1.9 billion somonis, which is 58 times more than in 2000.

During the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon deliberated on the constructive measures of the country’s Government for the development of all sectors, including the transport sector and the construction of roads and bridges, providing the necessary infrastructure, organizing the regular movement of cars, and the smooth transportation of passengers.

The head of state reportedly stated that in total, during the period of independence, 38 state investment projects worth more than 4 billion somonis were implemented for the purpose of socio-economic development, reconstruction of infrastructure and improvement of the living standards of the people of the region, and now works are being carried out within the framework of another 16 projects with the total cost of 5.5 billion somonis.  It was stressed that the mentioned projects are implemented in the areas of education and health, transportation and energy, providing access to social services, electricity supply, irrigation and agriculture, natural disaster risk management, poverty reduction, microfinance development, adaptation to climate change and other important areas.

It was mentioned that 1021 facilities worth one billion somonis were commissioned in the cities and districts of the region in preparation for the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence.  In addition, as part of the Plan of Actions for the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, the construction and reconstruction of 1362 facilities is planned.

Emomali Rahmon, confidently stated that the leaders of the cities and districts of the region, patriotic residents and honest businessmen in cooperation with the ministries and agencies will mobilize all their capabilities to build and introduced into operation the remaining facilities on time.
