His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, on October 12 received a detailed report on the progress of the construction of the 11 MW Sebzor Hydropower Plant. This included a live broadcast from the construction sites of the headworks, weir, and powerhouse.  Mr. Raimundas Karoblis, EU Ambassador to the Republic of Tajikistan, and Mr. Qozidavlat Qoimdodov, Resident Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network in Tajikistan were also present in the commencement event. At the conclusion of the presentation, he officially inaugurated the newly constructed bridge in the Roshqala district and authorized the passage of trucks over it.

The bridge is built as part of the Sebzor Hydropower Construction Project and has a capacity of 40 tonnes. This bridge is not merely a structure for transit; it is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating the transportation of goods and materials necessary for the ongoing construction of the hydropower plant. Moreover, it will serve as a vital link connecting the adjacent communities residing on either bank of the Shohdara River, thereby playing a pivotal social role.

The Sebzor Hydropower Construction Project has garnered international recognition for its exemplary adherence to environmental, social, and management standards. It is distinguished as the first project to be certified by the International Hydropower Association’s sustainability standard, earning its prestigious gold award. This accomplishment underscores the project's commitment to sustainable development practices that not only prioritize resource efficiency but also actively engage local communities.

In addition to the newly inaugurated bridge, the project also facilitates the construction of essential social infrastructure aimed at improving the quality of life in the area. This includes the establishment of two state-of-the-art sports playgrounds, which will provide recreational opportunities for the youth, and the construction of a new school in the village of Sebzor, designed to accommodate 200 students. Furthermore, the project includes the development of a modern water supply system, ensuring access to clean and reliable water for the local population.

Through these initiatives, the Sebzor Hydropower Construction Project not only contributes to energy generation but also significantly enhances the social fabric and living conditions of the communities in the surrounding areas.

Sebzor project is being implemented jointly with the Government of Tajikistan under financial and technical support from the European Union and the German Government through German Bank KFW.  The project showcases the benefits sustainable hydropower can bring to both a country and its people, reconciling the need to meet energy demand and ensure net-positive outcomes for surrounding communities and ecosystems.
