, May 29, Asia-Plus – International two-day conference on the issues related to preventing and treating tuberculosis in
Central Asia
opened in
Dushanbe
today.
According to information from the Ministry of Health, the conference participants include specialists and experts from
Central Asia
’s states dealing with treating this disease.
Participants at the conference are sharing experience and achievements in preventing and treating TB in their countries as well as considering issues related to working out regional events on consolidation of efforts to combat tuberculosis in the region and adopting recommendations for successful implementation by
Central Asia
’s states of their national programs.
The conference is staged by
Tajikistan
’s Ministry of Health under financial support of the German Government provided through the German Development Bank.
According to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics, 833 new cases of tuberculosis have been detected in
Tajikistan
over the first three months of this year, which is 28 percent more compared to January-March 2005.
