On February 12, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, met in Astana with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The Tajik MFA information department says that at the beginning of the meeting, the top Tajik diplomat conveyed warm wishes from the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to the President of Kazakhstan.

During the conversation, the current issues in Tajik-Kazakh relations of strategic partnership and alliance were discussed, which, thanks to the strong political will of the heads of state, are steadily developing in all directions.

As a reminder, in August 2024, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited Tajikistan on a state visit. During the visit, the Treaty on Allied Relations and 15 cooperation agreements were signed, according to Tajik MFA information department.

Kazakhstan’s Akorda reports that during the meeting, Tokayev noted the steady positive dynamics in the development of relations between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan across a broad range of areas, emphasizing the importance of further deepening strategic partnership.

In this regard, President Tokayev reportedly highlighted the Treaty on Allied Relations signed last year, which marked a new milestone in the multifaceted and fruitful cooperation between Astana and Dushanbe.

“We highly value our friendly relations with Tajikistan, with which we have no unresolved issues.  The people of Kazakhstan have special feelings for their fraternal Tajik brothers. Our countries have always supported each other, and today this is reflected in our shared desire to actively develop bilateral ties,” said Tokayev.

President Tokayev particularly noted the invaluable contribution of President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan in strengthening Kazakh-Tajik relations.

In turn, Sirojiddin Muhriddin reportedly emphasized that over the years of sovereign development, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have built mutually beneficial relations that are steadily developing in the spirit of friendship and alliance in the interests of the peoples of both countries.

"Tajikistan values its close brotherly ties with Kazakhstan.  Your country is our most important partner, and there is complete mutual understanding across all areas of bilateral cooperation.  The past year has been significant for our relations, which have reached the level of alliance," he said.

The two sides reportedly also discussed the implementation of agreements previously reached at the highest level, with particular attention given to the prospects for deepening cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, transit, digitalization, education, and culture.

In addition, regional security, water-energy cooperation, and joint measures to ensure the sustainable development of Central Asia were also discussed.

As previously reported, on February 13, 2025, Sirojiddin Muhriddin will hold talks in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as part of his official visit.

"The sides will discuss the implementation of agreements to strengthen the alliance and strategic partnership between the two countries, advancing the entire complex of Russian-Tajik relations within the framework of the intergovernmental dialogue this year," stated the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"A number of bilateral documents will also be signed, including the cooperation program between the Russian Foreign Ministry and Tajikistan for 2025-2026," she added.
