After the official welcoming ceremony, negotiations between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic were held with the participation of official delegations.

The Tajik president’s official website says issues related to Tajik-Kyrgyz relations and their development prospects were considered in detail.

Particular attention was reportedly paid to the issues of increasing economic and trade ties and using the potential of both countries in this area.

During the talks, the heads of state decided to establish an Intergovernmental Council headed by the prime ministers. This new body was instructed to increase the volume of bilateral trade to 500 million USD.

The expansion of relations in the promising industrial sector, the establishment of joint ventures, cooperation in agriculture, energy, the implementation of regional projects, primarily CASA-1000, the use of water resources, the development of transport and communication links, and the mutually beneficial use of transit and transport opportunities were among the important issues of the high-level talks between the two countries.

During the meeting, the relevant departments were instructed to take practical measures to restore air traffic between the countries, as well as passenger transport routes, including between border districts.

The expansion of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres, science and education, tourism, youth policy and sports were among the important topics of the negotiations.

There was also an exchange on the issues of joint fight against terrorism and extremism, manifestations of radicalism, cross-border organized crime, including cybercrime, and illegal drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, the Kyrgyz president’s official website notes that Kyrgyzstan President, Sadyr Japarov, emphasized that developing friendly and neighborly relations with Tajikistan remains a key priority in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy.

"Our countries share an ancient history, traditions, and culture. We hold similar positions on major regional and international issues, which creates a strong foundation for further strengthening our mutually beneficial cooperation. Thanks to joint efforts, political will, and the aspirations of our peoples for peace and good neighborliness, we are laying a solid basis for constructive interaction," Japarov stated.

In this context, the Kyrgyz leader praised the work of government commissions on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

The Kyrgyz president highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between border regions. He emphasized the role of joint cultural events in fostering friendly relations.

"In this regard, I want to underline the significance of the upcoming Navrouz celebrations in Khujand on March 31," Japarov noted.

He confirmed his personal participation in the event and expressed confidence that celebrating Navrouz together would become a cherished tradition, symbolizing peace and unity among Central Asian nations.

Japarov also stressed that developing trade and economic cooperation is one of the top priorities in Kyrgyz-Tajik relations. He expressed hope for a significant increase in trade turnover between the two countries, particularly following the successful resolution of border issues.

For his part,  Tajik President Emomali Rahmon reportedly expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and emphasized the centuries-old bonds of friendship and neighborliness between the two nations.

"We are determined to strengthen these ties further. Today, we will make a historic decision regarding our borders. The Border Agreement will serve as a solid foundation for strengthening intergovernmental relations. The signing of a comprehensive package of agreements will open a completely new chapter in Tajik-Kyrgyz relations. I am confident that the outcomes of today's meetings will elevate our cooperation to a new level, fully aligned with the fundamental interests of our peoples," Rahmon stated.
